Privacy Policy

Who we are

Valiown is developed by Waypoint Software ("we", "us", "our"), based in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what personal data we collect through the Valiown mobile app, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What data we collect, and why

Account information
Name, email address, and sign-in identifiers (via email code, LinkedIn, or Google). Used to create and secure your account. LinkedIn and Google sign-in are used for identity only — we do not receive your LinkedIn or Google profile data beyond your name and email.
CV and work history
The content of any CV you upload, and any work history you enter. Used solely to generate your personalised job matches and CV/cover letter rewrites.
Psychological profile responses
Your answers during profiling (CV-inferred, conversational, and any corrections you make). Used only to improve match quality. Never sold, never shared with employers or any third party.
Demographic information (optional)
Age, sex, and education level, if you choose to provide them. These are never used as an input to any AI matching or ranking decision — collected as optional context only.
Values, constraints, and career goals
Salary expectations, work-arrangement preferences, location, and career direction. Used to scope your job search and matching.
Application and job activity
Jobs you view, save, or apply to, and which CV version you used for each. Stored so you can review your own history and, where relevant, prepare for interviews for roles you've actually applied to.
Coaching and interview practice conversations
Content of conversations with the in-app Career Coach and Interview Prep features. Used to provide relevant, personalised responses and, for the Coach specifically, to recall relevant context in later conversations.
Payment and subscription status
Handled entirely through Google Play's official billing system (and Apple's, if you use an iOS version in future). We do not receive or store your card details — we only receive confirmation of your subscription status.
Basic technical data
Standard device and app-performance information (e.g. crash reports) used to keep the app working reliably.

How AI processing works

Valiown uses Anthropic's Claude API to power CV analysis, job matching, and the CV/cover letter rewrite features. Your data is sent to Anthropic solely to generate these results and is not used by Anthropic to train their models under our commercial terms with them. We maintain a data processing agreement with Anthropic covering this data flow.

Job listing data is sourced from Adzuna, an established UK job listings provider.

Our legal basis for processing your data

We process your data under the following bases, as required by UK GDPR:

  • Contract — processing necessary to provide the core service you've signed up for (matching, rewrites, tracking).
  • Consent — for optional data such as demographic information, which you can withdraw at any time by removing it in the app.
  • Legitimate interest — for basic technical/performance data, balanced against your right to privacy.

What we don't do

  • We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
  • We do not share your CV, profile, or conversations with employers or recruiters directly — you choose which jobs to apply to and how.
  • We do not use age, sex, or education as an input to any AI matching or ranking decision.
  • We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 — Valiown is intended for adults seeking employment.

Data retention

We retain your account and profile data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain limited records for legal or accounting purposes.

International data transfers

Some of our service providers (including Anthropic) process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate legal safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, to ensure your data continues to receive an equivalent level of protection.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Request a portable copy of your data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app develops. We'll update the "last updated" date above, and for material changes, we'll let you know directly in the app.
